Secondary Education Services Department

The Secondary Education Services Department is an offshoot of the disarticulation of the erstwhile Schools Department. The Department effectively took off on 3rd February 2023. It is in charge of all secondary schools related matters in the State, dealing with all the processes involving school administration and monitoring the educational activities/programmes.


The Department is sub-divided into 7 units:

a. Secondary Education Unit

b. Physical Education and Sport Units

c. Family Life HIV/AIDS Unit (FLHE) Unit

d. School Administration Unit

e. School funds and Secondary Unit

f. Child Labour; Islammiyah School and Orphanage/ Vulnerable Children Unit

g. Centre for French Training and Documentation (CFTD)

Activities

Public and Private Nursery and Primary Schools
Formulation of Policies and Guidelines for Operations of Nursery/Primary Schools
Processing of Application for the Opening of New Public Primary Schools at the request of Communities for approval to establish after the Inspection visit by Officials.
Ensuring that the Schools comply with laid down policies and guidelines
Handles requests for Change of Name and/or Address of Schools EXCLUDING LAND MATTER
Ensuring that the Private Schools pay their dues/levies to the Coffers of Government Purse
Collation of Education data of Private Primary Schools for Planning
Inspecting and Monitoring of the Schools to ensure that a high standard of safety and hygiene is maintained and recommending approval to establish
Processing of Application of Primary Schools for Permission to Embark on an Excursion
Child Labour,Vulnerable Children, Internally Displaced Persons and Arabic/Islamiyah Schools
Eradication of the Worst Forms of Child Labour in the State. Most of these vulnerable children are found along the streets when their mates are in their various Schools. The Ministry works with the Women Affairs Ministry and these children are placed in Schools and Homes
Organize training workshop programme for School Guidance Counsellors
Transfer of Internally Displaced Students affected by Boko Haram insurgence from the Northern part of Nigeria into public schools
iv. Arabic/Islamiyah Education Matters
a. Processing of application for the opening of Arabic/Islamiyah Schools
b. Inspecting and Monitoring of Arabic/Islamiyah Schools to ensure that a high standard of safety and hygiene is maintained
c. Ensuring that Arabic/Islamiyah Schools pay their dues/levies to the Coffers of Government Purse
d. Evaluation of Arabic/Islamiyah School result
